Do essential oils hurt dogs

Is camphor tree poisonous to dogs?

No, camphor is not at all suitable for dogs as these canines can suffer from various ailments if they come in contact with this terpene such as pawing at the skin, licking off all those areas where the camphor is applied, redness of skin and irritation in eyes.

Camphor is an organic compound that people use widely to treat pain, irritation and itching. It has a waxy texture and flammable properties, and you will get this compound in the woods of Cinnamomum camphora.

From the past few years, companies are effectively and efficiently using it to make balm and body rub. Such topical ointments are very useful for human beings, but they are not beneficial for our beloved pets like dogs.

Our skin tends to absorb the camphor quickly, but nothing will happen as such in the case of dogs, as it increases the risk of poisoning. The smell of this compound is so strong that it will make your dog sick. Furthermore, it can cause infection and headache to your pet.

Products having camphor as its base causes irritation to our nose and leaves our eyes watery. Then we should think of dogs who can’t express their feelings when they get the exposure of such a strong smell.

If your dog accidentally consumes it, then they will show some of the symptoms like nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, burning sensation in throat and mouth, depression and other mild symptoms. But in other species, the symptoms could turn out to be very serious like a seizure, depression of the central nervous system, pneumonia and risk of aspiration.
